Theatre takes great stories and embodies them as truly as possible for a live audience.
Theatre program at Mount Pisgah focuses on how to tell great stories well, no matter the age or skill level of the student.
Starting in Middle School, students learn to turn their play into plays by focusing on character, movement, creative writing, and lots of games.
In their first year of Middle in the fifth grade, students rotate through all arts courses throughout the year and have the chance to experience each discipline, including theatre. As they reach 7th and 8th grade, students may select the electives they would like to pursue. They showcase their work to a wider audience and perform in the Middle School play. From improv exercises to performances for their peers, their foundation for theatre is set.
In the Upper School, theatre students start to tackle more challenging work, repertoire, and concepts, while still having fun in a low-pressure, welcoming environment. Areas of study in the Upper include storytelling, solo performance, acting, improv, theatrical design, and devised theatre.
Upper School students who wish to engage and perform at the highest level possible at Mount Pisgah may apply to join Thespian Troupe 7371.

| INTRO TO THEATRE ARTS |

| Students will gain a general knowledge of all aspects of theatre arts and discover ways that performance reflects and influences everyday life. Students will investigate and engage with solo performance, storytelling, monologue, and two-person scenes, as well as improv, stage combat, and theatre history. |
| ADVANCED THEATRE ARTS |
| This course will give students the tools and skills required to create original dramatic work and theatrical performances from nothing. Students will investigate and engage with physical theatre, improvisation, text analysis, dramaturgy, stage design, and traditional character development. Additionally, students will learn voice and acting techniques, improvisation, character analysis, mask-making, and monologues, as well as theatre vocabulary, and theatre history. This course may be taken multiple times. |
