Our MIDDLE SCHOOL EDUCATION

MIDDLE SCHOOL: 5TH-8TH GRADE

Middle School is a special time — and our teachers embrace this stage and everything that comes with it. Students enter as they’ve just finished fourth grade and leave ready for high school.

At Mount Pisgah, Middle School includes 5th grade through 8th grade. On a tour of our campus, you will notice that 5th and 6th grade classrooms and 7th and 8th grade classes are on separate floors of the Middle School. This creates distinct learning environments for two groups of students at different developmental ages. Each year 6th and 8th grade students take on leadership roles as the leaders of their respective floors.

Our smaller class sizes allow faculty to engage students individually, meeting them wherever they are and helping them achieve their full potential. Students develop organizational skills, effective study habits, and strong communication skills.

The Journey of FAITH

In the Middle, spiritual formation is nurtured daily through devotions in homeroom. Students deepen their faith through worship and messages in weekly chapel services. Throughout the year, service activities such as visits to senior living facilities and our preschool students develop servant leadership. An annual off-campus spiritual retreat at SharpTop Cove is an opportunity for students to build their relationship with God, as well as build community with each other.

Exploring ELECTIVES

Through elective courses, students explore many disciplines across the Fine Arts and STEAM. In the fifth grade, students have the chance to rotate through band and orchestra classes before committing to a specific discipline. STEAM electives use WozEd Pathways to explore subjects such as coding, animation, and engineering.

RECESS

Growing minds and bodies need a break during the day. From 5th to 8th grade, all students have a designated recess time before or after lunch.

STUDENT SUPPORT
All students in the Middle benefit from teachers and counselors committed to empowering students academically, emotionally, and socially. This team has a holistic approach to equipping students to achieve their potential. Our counselor talks with students, advises faculty, and partners with parents. While we do not provide ongoing individualized counseling, we can provide therapist referrals and partner with outside professionals to support students and their families. Further support is available in our Executive Function Coaching program, where students are empowered to grow their executive functioning and study skills as they are coached by Learning Strategists.
